Better Than Ever!

I was planning to buy this same book, but it was a much older edition, and of course the book was used. And because this is a hard book to find, sellers were naming their prices.

For my surprise, the publisher "Create Space" had just released a brand new edition on July, this year. First edition of this book dates to '89, then a second edition just on '96. So, this new book covers almost 15 years of updates and reviews!!! Considering that IBM releases a new z/OS version every year, we can say that this is really something!

What can I say about this book? It's a great book for the novice and the advanced users, it has lots of techniques and tips in detail. Covers almost everything that is worthy of knowing about ISPF with great didactic.

So, if you planning to buy this book, consider the latest edition. It has updated contents and it's much cheaper.

Key Book of Key Conepts

This work is a remarkable condensation, written with great clarity and comprehension, of the words and terms that appear in the writings by and about G.I. Gurdjieff. The entries devoted to Astrology, Enneagram, and Zodiac are particularly insightful and valuable. But those that explain meanings behind everyday words like Fear, Music, Time, etc., are worth reading and considering--not to mention such obscure and work-specific neologisms as Hasnamuss, Legomonism, and Solioonensius. In all, there are 300 explanatory entries arranged alphabetically. Paul Beekman Taylor contributes a fine Foreword, and Sophia Wellbeloved has added a 12-page bibliography, a 4-page index, and biographical entries on 30 or so of Gurdjieff's pupils, both major and minor. "Gurdjieff: The Key Concepts" is a key book.

Comparative Social Policy provides students with an introduction to cross-national social policy research, conveying the fascinating and challenging issues involved in conducting research of this kind. The book examines the theoretical, conceptual and methodological approaches, discusses prevailing concepts and reflects on methodological difficulties. The authors use examples from a wide range of social policy analysis to illustrate what can be gained by conducting comparative social policy research.

The first part of the book provides a broad overview of the growing interest in comparative welfare state research and a discussion of major theoretical and methodological aspects relevant to comparative social research in general. Part II provides readers with an understanding of previous work in the subject, major approaches, important concepts and theories as well as methodological difficulties within comparative research in particular policy fields (health, housing, family policy, social care, social security, labour market policy).

The final section addresses particular themes and issues across these fields and highlights the essential components of comparative social policy research, particularly the need to explore these issues carefully to gain awareness of subtle cross-national differences and thus avoid misleading results.

The book includes differing country samples and sizes and takes examples from Europe, North America and the Asia Pacific region. All the chapters reflect on relevant conceptual and methodological approaches, each is written for the student reader and concludes with a guide to further reading.

About the Author
Jochen Clasen is Senior Lecturer in Social Policy in the Department of Applied Social Science, Stirling University. He has recently edited Social Insurance in Europe (1997) and co-authored (with A. Gould and J. Vincent) Voices Within and Without: Responses to long-term unemployment in Germany, Sweden and Britain (1998), both of which are published by The Polity Press.

They learned to be self-sufficient instead of relying on others and on society for their needs.

This is good as far as it goes, but 17 pages for $3 isn't going very far. And really, it's more like 12 pages, because the last third is a "preview" of another book on obsessive-compulsive personality disorder. If this were $0.99, I'd probably give it two or three stars.
