Short explanations for beginners. Language is clear. Pocket size, images are small (and many of them are bad quality). There are alot of typographic errors (mHz/MHz, refraction/reflection...). But well organized and summerizes the essentialls. I suggest the editors to use wholepage for many critical images from digital electronic media (not from photos). Finally do not touch pages with damp/wet fingers, they become crazy...

good for endocrinologists and radiologists

I am a diagnostic radiologist. I was recommended this book by an endocrinologist who needed more information in thyroid ultrasound reports. As far as "turf" issues, I am of the opinion that if a clinician has to look at every exam (even if there is a radiology report), my services are of limited value.

The book is concise and informative and helps us work together for the best patient care.

solid introduction in psychology of touch

This book is a collection of chapters authored by some of the most well-known researchers in psychology of touch. The material in this book does not require to have special knowledge to be comprehended but it nevertheless provides a solid overview of current research on touch summarizing results in different topics related to touch: active touch, vibrotactile perception, relation between vision and touch and many others. Although I am not psychologist and can not judge how current the material is, this book served me as an excellent introduction to the field to get an idea what is currently going, it serves well as a reference and starting point for further exploration.

This fun picture book captures more information

than my daughter's fifth grade history text. An excellent book, this interesting Landmark History uses vivid pictures and lively text to kindle a flame of interest in the American Revolution. As a homeschooling mother I have watched my sons grow in their fascination for American history. My daughters, however, have found it dull. While my sons enjoyed listening to the Landmark Book series as much as they enjoyed the Hardy Boys, my daughters found it all quite uninteresting. I stumbled across this new (1998) book, The Liberty Tree:..., (a Picture Landmark Book) and read it to my daughters and my four-year-old son. Finally! A twinkle.
Written in short "chapters", this book is very easy to follow. With bursts of information containing cause and effect relationships, even the youngest could see how the French and Indian War led to events which led to events which led to the American Revolution. The bold-faced captions provide additional information which, when read alone at another sitting, enhance the usefulness of the book.
The reading level is not appropriate for 4 - 8 year-olds. (Lucille Recht Penner has done nice works for that age group, but this is not one of those.) As a read aloud, however, it does appeal to that age. My four-year-old was interested and remained seated for most of the book.
The girls insisted that I read parts to their older brothers -- especially the part about Paul Revere using a woman's petticoat to soften the sound of his oars during the first part of his famous ride. (They giggled when I read ..."it was still warm.")

Wonderful introduction to the American Revolution

This non-fiction picture book is wonderfully illustrated and provides a BRIEF introduction to the beginnings of the American Revolution. It covers the various taxes and Acts imposed on the colonies, the Boston Masssacre, the Tea Party, the forming of the militias, women in the war, spies, etc. and ends with the signing of the Declaration.
Each section has a large illustration and about 8-10 short paragraphs supplemented with smaller pictures and captions to provide more detail and interesting anecdotes.
I think the Amazon-recommended reading level is misleading. I don't know any four-year-olds who would enjoy this book and none who could read it. I think the actual reading level is about grade 2-3.
I read it to my almost-six year old and she loved it. My nine-year old (who is an avid reader of history with a special interest in this time period) still enjoyed listening and managed to learn a (very) few new details.
There are 18 2-page sections and the book is indexed (a nice touch for this format). I will definitely get the other books in this series.

Wonderful educational book material

I am a new middle school teaching asst. and have used this book in the classroom to help teach the American Revolution. If possible, anyone who can, I would appreciate as many copies as possible, to give to students who can not afford to buy them, themselves. I have very little money, but found this book would be great for future use and just can't find enough copies to seve a class of 25. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Great for DL and Part-time MBA Students

While I'm not usually a fan of study guides, this one was very well done. This book goes into a lot of detail about the MBA and how to get the most out of your MBA study, including getting the most out of case studies, and those dreaded group projects where you get stuck with a bunch of lazy people who don't pull their weight. Full -time MBA students might not find it as valuable, but if you are in a part-time, executive, or online program where you are pretty much on your own, this book can very be useful.

You Know When Your Enemies Are Worried.....

I attended an investigative seminar for real investigative journalists and the one thing that he stated that stands out here is that when nay sayers critique journalists who've done their due diligence and applaud others who are simply popular but have done none, then you know that your work has been effective. This is the case with T.H. Johnson, the investigator from the OMIG (Ocean Medical Investigative Group) organization. The reflection of what he previously has stated is reflected right here with the weak analysis or the fraudulent critiquing that attempts to misrepresent the strength of the book THE PEOPLE VS. OJ SIMPSON. Believe me, all of his books are worthwhile reading because due to his own investigative effort he is not afraid to go against the popular narrative of Simpson's guilt. All of his discoveries point away from Simpson but involve government officials in Los Angles County and elsewhere attempting to cover up, by sealing crucial evidence that would certainly have a contrary impact upon the American reader who has followed the Simpson case.

Excellent tiny book with many, many words

This is a tiny picture book that has thousands, if not tens of thousands of words packed in. The index contains about 4500 words, but I'm sure there are actually loads more. It'll be one of the smaller books on your bookshelf, but there are 360 very compact pages with a lot of information. It's thematically arranged, and for example, there are two pages dedicated to baseball, two to bicycles, four for vegetables and four for fruits. And hundreds of other pages dedicated to many interesting topics. Each Spanish word has an English translation. I also really like how for some words it gives both a Latin American Spanish translation and a Spain Spanish translation. For example, the beans translates to los frijoles in Latin America and las alubias in Spain. But, there are also specific words for dozens of types of beans, like las habas for the fava beans.

The pages are really high quality, and the pictures are bright and extremely vibrant. The pages are a little thicker than most pages, too, so it shouldn't tear much. The print is small because the book is small, though. I have pretty good eyes, so the small print didn't bother me, but if you have any kind of eye problems, you might not like this book very much.

But overall this is awesome, and you really should add this to your library if you're learning Spanish. There are more useful words with pictures in this book than any other Spanish learning book that I've found.

Great vocabulary resource for those learning Spanish.

I think that teaching and learning vocabulary visually is more akin to the way in which a child acquires it. The book is actually smaller than I imagined. It is still large enough to read, but I imagine it would be some 8x10 type large book. It is more like a 5 x 7 or so. I just checked an the listed specs (which no one would probably read) show it is about that size. The picture, however makes me think it is large. I only deducted 1 star for this reason. The book itself seems excellent!

The best book on the market.

A WONDERFUL book for vocabulary. They just packed so much into this little book - practically everything you use or are familiar with. The sections cover people, appearance, health, home, services, shopping, food, eating out, study, work, transportation, sports, leisure, environment, and includes a reference section for time, maps, seasons, numbers, weights and a section of useful phrases, antonyms and particles. And it's all covered in sections, tons of tons of everything.

For example, under shopping is a subsection for la farmacia (drug store) and in that subsection, you receive the Spanish words for: dental care, feminine hygiene, deodorants, vitamins, pharmacy, pharmacist, cough medicine, herbal remedies, skin care, sunscreen, sunblock, insect repellant, wet wipes, tissue/Kleenex, sanitary napkin, tampon, panty liner, capsule, pill, medical measuring spoon, instructions, cream, ointment, gel, suppository, eye drops, eye dropper, syringe, needle, spray, powder,iron, multivitamins, disposable, medicine, pain killer, calcium, side effects, souble, laxative, sedative, magnesium, expiration date, dosage, diarrhea, sleeping pill, insulin, travel sickness pills, medication, throat lozenge and anti-inflammatory. That is one tiny part of "Shopping."

Very, very thorough. If you want to know what it is, it's probably in this book!!! It's unlikely that you'd need anything else. No book would be more complete. I've bought a bunch of them and can say this is the best with some degree of certainty. :) I wish I'd found this sooner.

I even learned words for things (like parts of a camera) that I don't know in English. :)

My only con is the book is small and chunky. That's really handy if you wish to carry the thing around, but I'd like it to be bigger. (It's about 5.5" across and 6.5" high, a smidge under an inch thick.)
